The Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme covers 1,949 medical and surgical packages across 27 specialties. These cover everything from simple procedures like hernia repair to complex surgeries like heart bypass and organ transplants.

General Medicine
Fever and infectious diseases, diabetes management, hypertension treatment, respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD, liver and kidney disorders, and neurological conditions including stroke and epilepsy. Covers hospitalisation with treatment for 3-15 days depending on the condition.
General Surgery
Hernia repair (inguinal, umbilical, incisional), appendectomy, gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy), thyroid surgery, abscess drainage, and intestinal surgeries. Both open and laparoscopic approaches are covered.
Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery
Coronary angiography, angioplasty with stenting (PTCA), pacemaker implantation, heart valve replacement (mechanical and biological), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and echocardiography. This is one of the most utilised specialties under PM-JAY.
Orthopaedics
Fracture treatment with internal fixation, spine surgery, arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction (ACL, PCL), bone tumour surgery, and sports injury treatment. Covers implants and prostheses as specified in the package rates.
Joint Replacement
Total knee replacement, total hip replacement, partial knee replacement, revision joint replacement, and shoulder replacement. Includes the cost of implants.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Normal delivery, caesarean section, hysterectomy, ovarian cyst surgery, ectopic pregnancy management, and fertility evaluation. Pre and post-natal care during hospitalisation is covered.
Ophthalmology (Eye)
Cataract surgery with IOL implant (one of the most common procedures under PM-JAY), glaucoma treatment, retinal surgery, squint correction, and corneal transplant.
ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat)
Tonsillectomy, septoplasty, sinus surgery (FESS), ear surgery for chronic infections, cochlear implant, and thyroglossal cyst excision.
Urology
Kidney stone treatment (lithotripsy, PCNL, ureteroscopy), prostate surgery (TURP), urinary tract surgery, bladder surgery, and kidney transplant.
Neurosurgery
Brain tumour surgery, spinal cord surgery, shunt surgery for hydrocephalus, aneurysm clipping, and craniotomy. Covers ICU stay and post-operative rehabilitation.
Oncology (Cancer)
Medical oncology covers chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Surgical oncology covers tumour excision, mastectomy, and lymph node dissection. Radiation oncology covers external beam radiation, brachytherapy, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Paediatric cancer treatment is also covered as a separate specialty.
Emergency Care
Emergency stabilisation packages cover the first 12-24 hours of emergency care including resuscitation, stabilisation, and initial diagnostic workup. This ensures that no PMJAY patient is turned away from emergency care.

The scheme also covers: neonatal care (NICU for premature babies), mental health and psychiatry (including de-addiction), polytrauma (accident injuries), burns management and skin grafting, plastic and reconstructive surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and organ transplant (kidney, liver, heart, cornea).
