Adding Family Members to Your PM-JAY Card
Your PM-JAY coverage is family-based — all members listed in the SECC database under your family unit are automatically covered. But what about new additions — a newborn baby, a newly married spouse, or a family member whose name was missed?
Newborn Baby
A newborn baby in an eligible family is automatically covered under PM-JAY from birth. You do not need to separately “add” the baby. When you visit a PMJAY hospital for neonatal care, the baby’s treatment is claimed under the mother’s PM-JAY card. If the baby needs NICU admission after delivery at a PMJAY maternity hospital, it is covered under the same family card.
Newly Married Spouse
If a person from a PM-JAY eligible family gets married, the spouse’s coverage depends on their own family’s SECC status. If both families are PM-JAY eligible, both cards continue to work independently. If one family is eligible and the other is not, the non-eligible spouse does not automatically get PM-JAY coverage through marriage.
For updating family details post-marriage, visit your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) with marriage certificate, Aadhaar cards of both spouses, and existing PM-JAY card. The CSC operator can help update records through the state health agency.
Missing Family Members
If a family member who should be eligible is not showing in the PM-JAY system, visit the nearest CSC or call 14555. Carry the family’s ration card, all Aadhaar cards, and any proof of family relationship. The operator will check the SECC database and, if the member is listed there, can help generate their card.
Death of a Family Member
The coverage continues for the remaining family members. The ₹5 lakh family floater is shared among surviving members. No action is needed to “remove” a deceased member — the PM-JAY system handles this administratively.
